In this day & age is seems like things changes so quickly, here today…..gone today. Having said that, it makes me very proud to say that the Old Skool has been on Power 106 for over 9 years in various time slots, but our good run has come to an end. It was a pleasure for me to play good music everyday at lunch for you, and it was even better to read your texts & talk to you on the phone everyday! I will miss being a part of your lunch break. Thank you again for everything & don’t forget you can still listen to me everyday doing sports at 5:50, 6:50, 7:50 & 8:50 on Big Boy’s Neighborhood! I’m very thankful to have a gig considering how crazy things with the economy…I’m very blessed. Thanks to Power 106 for letting me rock the Old Skool all these years, and stay tuned to Power 106 cuz you never know where I might pop up next.

Yo man, this is is really disappointing news. The Old Skool Show has been a part of my life since I can remember, going back all the way to when Kurtis Blow used to rock it on Sunday nights to present day with the Aquanet Set. How can Power claim to be the station where Hip Hop Lives and not pay homage to the old skool? Without the old skool, there would be no new skool. That’s like having a house with no foundation!

Thats some bad news especially in this age of ipods and pandora. power will continue to lose listeners because they have these kick a@! shows pulled from the air. I guess they are making more time to replay the same song ten times in a hour. Im a big fan of jeff and the old skool show too bad power keep f’ing up the program.
Jeff… this really sucks. it’s like having my old, trusted and true hangout spot demolished and the guys who demolished it start to build a strip mall over it. i mean.. yours was the last real hip hop/old school show on the air. it was tho only thing left that power106 had that made the station NOT a pop station.
It was the only show left that made Power “real” and in tune with the root of us listeners. i know that your higher-ups might have thought that there was no one listening to the show (i mean corporate people look at numbers right?)…but its one of those shows that you just KNEW it was going to give you that good feeling.

Who do we need to talk to to make complaints? Lol. Duuude, aquanet set was theee sh!t. You can’t take it away from us. No one else plays music like that. Uggghhh. I really hope Power decides to at least bring the aquanet set back. I would make sure to do my errands at noon on Fridays just so I can listen to the aquanet set while I was in my car.

this is some disapointing news……im a driver 4 sparkletts, and i know that my co-workers n I always looked foward to fridays wtih the aquanet set to get our weekend started,we would always call each other to make sure we were tuned in. im a club dj as well and i know fridays at noon would get me pumped up 4 ma gigs on the weekends….hoe someday it comes back….i know i got a lot of music from the playlist wich helps me out on my sets……thnx jeff g,artie the one man partie,dj ever,e-man,and the old skoo show staff….and ofcourse the throw back dj rawn.. 4 good fridays…..

I seriously want to cry Jeff….why? Do you know how many times you and your show has cheered me up from any battles I was going through? Many, let me tell you. I literally waited for the aquanet set ever Friday because I knew whatever I was going through, good or bad…my day would get better. Not to mention, it was my official “Its the weekend” show. I made everyone listen to it…turned it so loud and really enjoyed it. It will be missed Jeff…And I will miss hearing you on Fridays at noon.
This is beyond dissapointing. I listened to the Old School Show/Aquanet Set for 8 of its 9 years, and other old school oriented shows that aired on Sunday (pre-Power106 Old School Show), way back when they aired on 92.3 The Beat FM. I loved the Old School show for years, the tracks they payed never failed to light up my day and make me laugh/reminisce about the past. Additionally, their mixers were awesome. The Old School Show was ALWAYS up-beat and fun to listen too. Even when I movoed to San Diego for school, I would find the right spot in room to snag Power 106′s signal (I ran this rediculously long strip of wire antenna to make it happen); I even managed to rock half of the floor in my dorm with the show. It’s programs like these that kept me listening to Power over other local stations, EVEN WHEN I LIVED OVER 200 MILES AWAY (I still managed to get signal). The Old School Show/Aqual Net made Power unique among all others, and the show was conducted with fun and passion, which is why it had a loyal group of listeners. Thank you JG for rocking my car stereo, putting people in a good mood and for doing what you did, beacause the present is not glamorous without a past to refect upon.

Jeff…this blows! Tomorrow is my 23rd B-day and finding out about the OLD SKOOL show not being on anymore has to be the worst present ever!!! I look forward to the Aquanet Set because after a long stressful week, hearing Debbie Deb “Look out Weekend” made all the stress go away. I don’t know how I’m going to be able to enjoy my B-day now, but just know I got your back through all this.

Hey Jeff I guess you deleted my post cause of the negativity towards Power, I’ll be constructive this time.
Power 106 please put back the Old School Show! There is a dedicated following that listens to the music that was played at the 12 o’clock hour. You are losing a large demographic that ONLY LISTENS to the station because of this particular hour. I would say that this demographic would consist of many individuals between the ages of 25 and 50. Why 50 years old… because 25 years ago my dad was jamming to Debbie Deb on Power and was still doing so until today. Why 25 years old… because I grew up listening to the music my dad played and loved it ever since.
Power, I have gone to Universal City Nissan, I have gone to A&G, and I have gone to Burger King because of your adds at this hour. Why risk losing potential business to your advertisers? The uniqueness of the old school show kept us listening. I have satellite radio and an Ipod what will make us listen now? Please don’t send us to another radio station or another dj. The listeners knew the passion Jeff had to the show and we could tell that it was real.

THIS IS WACK!!!!! I will boycott Power 106 effective immediately until Old Skool show iz back. All Power plays is the same 25 songs over and over again. The old skool show was some variety for the other 23 hours on the air. How mamy times can we listen to “my life” by the game and Lil wayne or any of those lame Akon songs.

just relocated from the San Diego area and was hoping to get away from the generic and redundancy that is San Diego radio…actually been back and forth from sd and la the past 6 years, and the old skool show and aquanet set was a way that power separated themselves from all the rest……you need to call the station at 818 953-4200 and ask to speak to programming director to voice your displeasure with this decision……..

It is very unfortunate to hear that Jeff and the Old Skool show have been taken off your programming schedule, but I do understand that at the end of the day that this still a business. However, this decision that has taken place will upset many many dedicated listeners, and probably cause your listeners to explore new radio stations.
Please remember, less listeners equals less advertising dollars for your station. I strongly believe that removal of Jeff and the Old Skool show is definitely in wrong direction for your station / fans and needs to be revisted.
This was suppose to be a year of Change with Obama – but this change here was definitely unexpected and disheartening.

The old skool show was truly the best thing about Power 106. Now they’ve officially alienated the 25 and over listeners (the ones with the greatest purchasing power!!) Come on, the show played a hella lot more Morrissey than KROQ does!

I know you want people to keep it cool on their comments. But I’m seriously extremely pissed off they would do this. They play the same music (usually 10 songs) the whole entire time, your Old Skool Show was the only reason I listened to Power. To hear the REAL hip hop, Rather than the garbage they “produce” now a days. As far as the Aquanet Set, that’s the biggest disappointment. Power must have forgot that they used to play a lot of that Freestyle back in the day, I remember it like it was yesterday. Seems to me they forgot where they came from and the songs that made them a Good radio station. I understand where your coming from though because you still got a good job which is hard to come by now a days. I hope power comes to their senses and realizes they just lost a lot of fans. I know all my friends only listen to your shows because we’re all tired of the same junk being re-played over and over. But Goodluck Jeff, in whatever you decide to do. I could not believe what I read. My heart literally stopped beating for a moment. It is ashame that we, the people cannot listen to the music that that brings about some nostalgic momnents. Music is the one thing that unites people, and the Old Skool Show definitely united L.A. I turned so many people on to this wonderful show and now its gone. It always brought back many fond memories. Jeff embodied this show like no other. Jeff G. is the true defitition of Hip Hop. This is/was the greatest show Power 106 offered. This began the weekend for all of us. Mr. Jimmy Steal, listen to all of these blogs, this is what makes Hip Hop. Jeff, I appreciate you always taking the time to speak with me on the phone. Jeff always made time for the listeners and it is greatly respected. I truly appreciate your friendship. I will do whatever it takes to help make “OUR” show come back on the air. What the F Jeff!!! This is depressing! Like OMG depressing. Every Friday at work we would play the aquanet set, our customers loved it!!! What am I suppose to listen to now? The same song being played over and over on power??? Forget that, Power just lost a couple of listeners cause for sure I will keep spreading the news of how the radio station is getting wack!!!! Jeff! It’s noon and it’s Friday but no Aquanet. I miss it so much! The Aquanet is what kept me going between 12pm-1pm on Fridays here at work. I never thought I could feel depressed over losing a radio show…but the Aquanet was more than just a radio show…it was like a piece of my childhood. Growing up the youngest of 7 Salvadorians in East L.A., listening to Morrissey & The Smiths mixed with Stacy Q, Afrika Bambaata and other old skool hip hop was almost like listening to a photograph…does that make any sense? It was a great way to remember the past and still feel connected.

When I noticed the commercial structure had changed, (they started interrupting the Old Skool Show twice per hour rather than once) I knew it was the beginning of the end. What a deplorable decision to remove the Old Skool Show. I’ve been a Power listener since 1992, but that may soon come to an end. The Aquanet was one of a kind. West Coast Wednesday was unique in a sense that where else can you find one solid hour of good gangsta rap, not mushy pop music. Bring back the Old Skool Show ASAP! Renew our faith in Power 106! If it is not possible, my suggestion is to have a one hour show on Fridays commercial free for the Aquanet Set, West Coast rap and classic hip hop. Jeff Garcia is the best!

I am disappointed. The new stuff is not interesting to me. Every one of the guys at my construction company would usually listen to jack fm because new music on power 106 sucks. But we would always tune in at noon. Now we never listen any more because its just not good music. No goot beats and no skill in the lyrics. Sad.
